Pushing MIG wire long distances can cause the wire to bunch, bend and become stuck in the liner. Spool guns help eliminate this problem by putting the small spool of wire right in the gun or by helping pull the wire through the liner. By keeping a constant wire feed speed, weld quality is increased.
